DISCLAIMER: I have to add these words because of the FTC. But if you are a friend of mine then you know that when I recommend a product that I also use it. And that holds true for what you are reading here on this page.
We all have had the experience and excitement at the high speed of our newly bought PC and we all have experienced that sinking feeling a few months later at noticing our PC running slower and slower. Even me, yes that is right, your Computer Buddy has experienced the same thing.
Even the processing speed of my computer was so slow thats tasks such as booting up, running windows and internet browsing were virtually getting slower and slower.
Have you ever wondered as to who I run to? What many of friends do not know is that I research quite a bit. So when I am working on your computer and I determine the problem. When I make a recommendation then you will assured that I not only researched the solution but I have also bought it and I run it on my own computers and in many cases I have bought it for my kids computers as well.
So here is a list of my 10 steps that I follow to speed up a slowing computer:
1. I get rid of Spyware. That is a number One priority.
2. I also make sure that I have the latest security patches for my version of Microsoft Windows. This will provide the utmost security and protection for your windows operating system.
3. Sometimes I will have to adjust some IE setting that I had previously changed and forgot to set back. I recommend Firefox and Google’s Chrome because Internet Explorer has been the target of hackers and phishers for years and there does not appear to be subsiding by them.
4. Because unnecessary programs accumulate quickly and slow down the system at startup, they should be removed from your computer. Especially the ones that run at startup.
5. Be sure to install and operate an effective Firewall program because Microsoft Firewall does not give the best protection. If you cannot afford one of the more reliable software firewalls then Microsoft’s solution is better than nothing.
6. For routinely checking your computer registry, I recommend Regcure (the image above has a link tied to it). It can be scheduled and to date I have not seen one problem and I consider it VERY reliable.
7. Perform a de-fragmentation on your hard-drive will speed up read and write processes by rearranging data into orderly chunks.
8. Many new systems include an Anti-Virus program that should be opened and updated.
9. Be sure to remove all idle programs, they will slow down and consume your PC’s speed.
10. There is a free program on the market with an unusual name “Crap Cleaner” at http://www.ccleaner.com/. This is a jewel of an application. It does a host of functions that Microsoft should have programmed into their operation. Quite literally, it cleans the crap out of the computer.
