MiniSites – What is the Easiest Design?

A better question might be “Will Ugly Site sell better than Nice Looking Site?”

There seems to be a school of thought that an ugly site will do just as well in the income side of things as a nice looking site. And some of these site owners have proof to backup their claims.

However, why build ugly? In most cases it is harder to achieve some ugly designs.

If the goal is to build a functional site then that should be the desired effect. It can be dressed up as far as you want or left to be a plain look.

Ultimately, the easiest design is one that is fast to setup as well as easy to replicate on other sites.

The MiniSites designed here have a very basic layout; a Header, a Navigation area, Content, and finally a Footer section.

The Header and Footer sections are the easiest. Using a simple graphic header depicting in some form the niche is all it takes. The Footer need only contain the standard files such as Contact Us, Disclaimer, Site Map and the other Content pages.

The Content section will of course contain the content related to the niche but resist adding active links unless it is to one or two of the other content pages.

The Navigation area is the easiest section. It should contain the AdSense code and no actual navigation links to the other Content pages.

The reason is simple. Visitors are conditioned to focus on the left side of the screen and the “Hot Spots”. Remember the navigation links added to the Footer section? That is below the fold so it is less likely that someone will scroll there to click.

No trickery involved just simplicity.
