Lesson 7 - Headlines

SE Tactics - Headlines - Lesson 7Headlines or Headings are extremely useful and are used extensively in HTML based documents and web pages. We have associated HEADLINES with newspapers but believe it or not they can be found in web pages too. There are a total of six heading commands ranging from
to
.
produces the largest form of text and
produces Even my headline has my keyword phrase.the smallest. These are powerful tags yet they need to be used very independent of other HTML commands. In other words they do not play well with others.

These tags do have a couple of other attributes that are pretty useful such as; Align (for Left, Right and Center justification), and the Class and ID attributes which I use when I need to integrate Cascading Style Sheets into the website.

The commands that do not work well are the ones that actually manipulate text like , and and that is because the Heading tags automatically do a bolding. If you find a need to do further manipulation of text within the
related tags then I suggest you utilize Cascaded Style Sheets.

Back to the lesson. The
header tag should be as far towards the top of the page as possible. When Google reads a webpage, it views the text from the top left hand side of the page to the bottom right hand side of the page. This is not to say you cannot place this somewhere else but just remember Google and other Search Engines view websites not from a graphical perspective but from a text perspective.

It is best to place your
header tag on the top left hand or top/middle portion of your page where your content will be residing. You can think of an
header tag as a title or headline for whatever content you have on this page or whatever page.

In this lesson my main Keyword or Keyword Phrase that I use on my website is
Lynchburg Web Design
. See how I use my Keyword Phrase yet again. Remember, Search Engine Optimization is all about how Keywords are used on a web page.

As an added benefit you can create sub-Keywords by using the other Heading tags. For example, if I had a secondary keyword I would enclose it within the
header tag. And I would place this
tag somewhere towards the top half of my webpage.

As I have mentioned before. Take care that you do not over use these tags because the SPAM effect can be a killer for your website.

Stay tuned for all of my 8 lessons and I will show in a very detailed manner how I came from the deep vastness of the Internet to the Top 10 for my Keyword Phrase. You may also visit my website where my lessons here include images to better describe the alterations that I have performed.
