Keyword Buddy

Is this post about some awesomely new keyword research tool? Or is it about the absolute best keyword researcher on the planet? Maybe it is about a revolutionary new tool that extrapolates keyword from competitor sites.

Honestly, it is not any of those.

This is about my adventures in tackling hard root level keywords.

What do I mean about root level keywords? I am refering to single words like; dogs, cats, and fish. Tough keyword phrases like dog training, cat litter, credit cards, and even make money online. You know they are tough when you cannot find your site in the search results of Google.

So what is there to say?
Yes, it is tough to do but it is possible. It takes a willingness to push towards a goal and never giving up. The key is Time. Time is always on your side if persistents continues as a part of your strategy.

For Example
Take my name for instance. “Buddy Shearer”, it is a two word phrase and not really a household phrase in terms of well know keyword phrases but regardless, it is my keyword phrase. If you enter it into a Google search you will see that my main site pops up in the number one spot with about 176,000 results.

Now before you go, “WOW!”. Don’t. Anybody can do this. This is the simplist way to get to the number one spot. Register your name, build a blog/website, add a few pages, get the site indexed add a few text links pointing to your sign and after a while you’ll be here like me.

Now for the hard part.
Look at my first name “Buddy” and my lastname “Shearer” as seperate keyword phrases. These will be tough BUT they are very doable in terms of gaining better positioning in the SERP’s (that means Search Engine Result Pages).

So let’s look at the word buddy itself. If you perform a Google search on “buddy” it will return about 117,000,000 results. Wow! That impresses even me. So can I even be found in this multi-million view? Well, Google won’t actually show us all of those millions but they will show us the Top 1,000 sites in ten groups of 100 (just change you Google preferences).

I did this very search and I went through the entire 1,000 list and I did not find my site “buddyshearer.com”. I started this back in December of 2009 (today it is January19, 2010). So during the past month I have been adding a post a day to my Blog, adding backlinks and writing/submitting articles.

Results
As of today, my name “buddy”, when I search for it Google, I can find it about the 562th position. Not bad for about 30 days of work. In my opinion, it will just get better.

Who is my competition?
I do need to be aware of this because the sites, as I approach the top ten, will have more links. It would be foolish to not factor that into this project.

The competition consists of sites that feature information on Wikipedia, Buddy Holly, Buddy Rich and even the doll “My Buddy”.

Can I beat them? That is my goal. It is me versus the dead guys.

Bring it on fellas.
